Porsche® Check Engine Light
The Porsche® check engine light is one of the most important indicators that something may be wrong. So what does the check engine light mean on a Porsche®?
The Porches check engine light is actually a blessing in disguise. For instance, it might be signaling that the gas cap isn’t securely fastened or there are issues with fuel injectors and sensors. You may find “Fault of the engine control system” and “Check Engine Visit workshop” error messages on your dashboard.
It’s not always easy to diagnose a problem with your car. The engine could be misfiring, the transmission is slipping, or it may even have an evaporative emission control system (EVAP) issue that will need to be looked at more closely.
A Porsche®’s engine light may turn on for a number of reasons, but if it is difficult to pinpoint the problem without an OBD-II scanner that can detect and diagnose different kinds of faults.
Symptoms
Here are some warning signs that may indicate your Porsche®’s check engine light is on:
- Engine runs rough
- Engine misfire
- Lack of power
- Poor throttle response
- Unusual engine sound
- Smoke from the exhaust
- The vehicle goes into limp mode.
How to Reset Porsche® Check Engine Light
There are many occasions where you will be met with a vehicle that is not starting. However, without reading the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), it can feel pretty tricky to pinpoint what is wrong and fix it appropriately!
You’ll want to take the time before you reset your Porsche®’s check engine light by reading all of the codes and fixing any potential problems.
Avoid using a generic OBD-II scanner when diagnosing your Porsche® vehicle.
A general-purpose code reader is not compatible with specific features of the Porsche® and may cause harm to your car’s computer system by mixing incompatible codes. Popular Porsche® scanners include iCarsoft for Porsche® and Foxwell NT520 Pro for Porsche®.
Step 1: Locate the OBD-2 port under your dashboard and plug in the scanner. You will be able to find it behind a panel near your steering wheel or on one of the side panels located around your car’s cabin.
Step 2: As the scanner powers up, you will hear a beep. This indicates that it is now ready to accept commands from your device via Bluetooth or auxiliary cord.
Step 3: Now, press ENTER and select your Porsche® model from the list.
Step 4: Fault codes will show on your LCD, giving you a description of what went wrong. Look for the problem and fix it, do more research on each code in order to understand their relationship with one another.
Step 5: Go back to the main menu and select Clear Fault Codes, then press OK. The check engine light on your Porsche® will reset in just a few seconds!
These instructions work on all 1996 and newer Porsche® vehicles, including Macan, Cayenne, Panamera, Boxster, Cayman, or 911.
What does it mean when the Porsche® check engine light is flashing on and off?
A flashing Porsche® check engine light means that the car is experiencing a misfire. Check its fuel pump and ignition wires for any signs of damage to diagnose what’s causing this problem before it causes more serious consequences.
If the check engine light is flashing, there may be unburned fuel in your exhaust. The shaking engine will put a damper on your drive, and potentially overheat with frustrating frequency.
You might be experiencing issues with your Porsche®’s spark plug, ignition coil, or catalytic converter.
Driving your vehicle with the check engine light flashing can cause expensive damage to your catalytic converter.
As the owner of your Porsche®, you’ll want to take care not to drive while your check engine light is flashing. To avoid incurring costly repairs and fines for driving with an inspection at home or abroad, it’s best practice when faced with this issue in the future to simply turn off the ignition until the problem has been diagnosed by an expert mechanic.
